Alyssa's teacher uses a digital alarm clock in her classroom to remind her to
test and then re-test following treatment of lows. At the beginning of each school year to
teach other children about diabetes we get kids in the class involved in a mini-skit.
Some kids act as carbs, some as insulin, others as proteins, etc. Chad or Alyssa are the main
focus and the "carb" kids get to "attach" themselves to them and then pair off with the "insulin"
kids later on. We go over highs and lows and have lots of fun! My husband and I do the initial
training of school staff prior to school starting, as some teachers really have no concept of
what their responsibilities are. Also, if you’re interested in insulin pumps, Minimed has a
publication "Pumper in the School".

Parent’s Advice #2
Yes the digital alarm clock is a great idea!
We purchased a travel alarm clock from The Bay, it is pocket size & has a special NAP function
which sets the alarm at the push of a button, in 15 minute incerments.
When Wesley goes out to play or goes over to a friends house, we just push the button 2 - 7 times
when the alarm goes off he magical appears. It's also great for reminding you about snack times
when you are out & about & on the run.
